MPA Prospective
Welcome to the website for the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program at UNT — one of the oldest in the Southwest and among the first in Texas. Here are a few quick facts to help you decide if UNT is right for you:

- The UNT MPA degree was among the first in Texas to be accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) and has been reaccredited since that time;
- It is also one of the oldest in Texas, tracing its origins to 1961;
- In a 2004 reputational survey conducted by U.S. News & World Report, the UNT program was ranked 10th nationally and first in the Southwest and Texas in the field of city management/urban policy;
- The degree requires 42 hours for pre career, 39 for in-career, and 36 for mid-career students;
- Approximately two-thirds of the program's 130 students are pre-career and enrolled full time (9 hours per semester);
- All students complete eight core courses, taught by some of the nation's top scholars;
- Students may specialize through their choice of elective courses in emergency management, financial management, local government management, nonprofit management, or human resource management;
- Approximately 51 percent of our graduates go to work for a city government, 20 percent work in other governments, 9 percent pursued a doctorate and/or work in higher education, and 19 percent work in private or non-profit organizations.
