The University Core Curriculum consists of general education courses which

    • are set by the state

    • are required of all university students

    • serve as a common intellectual foundation for
students regardless of their major or field of study

    • total 42 hours of specific coursework.

Courses associated with the University Core Curriculum
may be taken at UNT or at another accredited
educational institution and then transferred to UNT. A
complete list of courses which qualify for University
Core credit at UNT may be found at http://www.unt.edu/
  catalog/undergrad/academics.htm.

Students who have taken courses at a community college or another Texas university may determine equivalency to UNT core courses by visiting the Transfer Articulation website at http://essc.unt.edu/registrar/articulation/.

Students who have completed an associate's degree have often already completed some core courses. However, because 42 advanced level hours (from courses with a 3000 or 4000 prefix) are required for a BAAS degree, it is advisable to take some core courses at UNT at the advanced level rather than at a community college. This will help maximize the number of workforce credits (typically lower level courses) that may be transferred to UNT.
