Scholarship Information
The College of Public Affairs and Community Service (PACS) is happy to offer the following five scholarships to undergraduate students. Applications, including due dates for the submission of completed materials, are available for download below or copies may be obtained in the Student Services Office, Suite 289, Chilton Hall.
All PACS scholarships have the following general requirements:
- Students must be an undergraduate major within the College of Public Affairs and Community Service (PACS), Majors included:
- Anthropology, Applied Arts and Sciences, Applied Behavior Analysis, Applied Economics, Applied Gerontology, Criminal Justice, Emergency Administration and Planning, Public Administration, Rehabilitation Studies, Social Work, and Sociology.
- Students must be in good academic standing (2.0 GPA)
- Students must demonstrate financial need

- PACS Advisory Board Scholarship ($1,000.00)
- This scholarship is open to all PACS undergraduate students with a 3.0 or higher UNT GPA. It recognizes those students who see themselves as social entreprenuers.
- Joyce Ann Brown/Popo Gonzalez Scholarship ($500.00)
- This scholarship, awarded each fall semester, is designed to recognize PACS majors who have overcome some type of adversity.
- Gail Rola Memorial Service Learning Scholarship ($500.00)
- This scholarship is designed to recognize PACS majors who participate in service to the community through either their own volunteer efforts or participation in service-learning courses. This scholarship is named in honor of Associate Dean Gail Rola who was a strong advocate for students and service learning.
- Scholarship for Service Learning Programs in Mexico ($500.00)
- This scholarship, awarded each spring semester is designed to cover some of the costs of PACS majors who participate in one of the many PACS Service Learning Courses or Field Schools offered in Mexico during the summer.
- The Libertad Hernandez Landa Scholarship ($500.00)
- For undergraduate nationals of the Republic of Mexico. This scholarship, awarded each spring semester is designed to recognize PACS undergraduates who are citizens of the Republic of Mexico.
Departmental Scholarships
A number of departments within the College of Public Affairs and Community Service also offer their own competative scholarships. Below are links to more specific information on each of these scholarships including applications and due dates for the submission of completed materials. Please contact the designated academic deparment when inquiring about these scholarships.
- The Tom Joslin Memorial Scholarship in Emergency Administration ($1000.00)
- For undergraduate students majoring in Emergency Administration and Disaster Planning.
- The Donald L. Whaley Memorial Scholarship ($1000.00)
- For undergraduate students majoring in Applied Behavior Analysis.
- RSA Undergraduate Scholarship
- Eight of these scholarships are awarded each year to undergraduate students majoring in rehabilitation studies and who make a commitment to
pursue employment in support of the State-Federal Vocational Rehabilitation Programs. This scholarship, which is designed to cover student tuition and fees is made possible through support from the U.S. Department of Education’s Rehabilitation Service Administration.
- Social Work/Title IVE Child Welfare Scholarship ($5000 stipend)
- Eight of these scholarships are awarded each year to undergraduate students majoring in social work. The purpose of the scholarship is to help train and educate students for careers in Child Protective Services (CPS). The stipend requires only that a student work for a CPS agency upon graduation for one year. Please contact Dr. Anna Rae Rozell for more information.
- Fannie Belle Gaupp Scholarship ($300)
- An annual award of $300 made to the outstanding social work major of the year selected by the social work program faculty. Scholarship is named in honor of the founding social work director who provided many years of professional leadership. This award recognizes scholarship, participation in social work activities, leadership and character, as well as the potential for future contributions in the field. All social work majors at UNT are eligible for this scholarship. Please note that there is no application for this scholarship.
- Ken Miner Scholarship ($200)
- An annual award of $200 to undergraduate juniors and seniors and graduate rehabilitation majors who are clearly outstanding in terms of academic performance. Recipients must be enrolled full-time and have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0. This scholarship is named in honor of Ken Miner, chair and faculty member of the department who provided many years of professional leadership. Applications are available in the Rehabilitation, Social Work and Addictions Office in February of each year and are accepted through March 5th.
Ft. Worth Area Texas Rehabilitation Association Scholarship ($200)
An annual award of $200 to undergraduate juniors and seniors and graduate rehabilitation majors who are clearly outstanding in terms of academic performance. Recipients must be enrolled full-time and have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0. Applications are available in the Rehabilitation, Social Work and Addictions Office in February of each year and are accepted through March 5th.
